Chapter 5: An Army for Tanevir

About the Saga

After determining that the there are over a dozen orcs at Bloodstone Tower, our heroes decide to send Finn and Kor back to Obsidian Bay for reinforcements. A strange turn of events leads them to recruiting a bandit group to assist them in the assault.

What Has Come Before

Willow Wind has tasked his protege Tanevir with clearing out the Red Fang Orcs from the nearby fortress Bloodstone Tower. After clearing a Bugbear out of a cave, and killing a patrol of Hobgoblins, the party is able to gather information about the forces at the tower. The decide that it would be best to return to the settlement to gather some reinforcements for a full assault.

The Saga

Readying 22, CY 515

Quote the Raven

Tanevir decides stay behind in the cave to monitor the fortress, while Finn and Kor return to the settlement for reinforcements. Half way back Finn notices one of the ravens he spoke to a few days ago has decided to follow him. Not only that, but it seems agitated. Finn casts speak with animals. The raven tells him that there are "smelly humanoids" up ahead. Finn and Kor sneak up and see a group of orcs. They are able to quietly bypass them and continue on their way.

Readying 23, CY 515

Gnomish Con Job

Carac is on patrol with a group of Cuthbertians. They run into The Wyverns who are shaking down a local merchant. The gang is put down with a little help from a passing by Burgell. The gnome picks the pocket of the Wyvern leader. He passes it to the merchant telling him it's "karma".

Burgell asks Carac to watch out for him that night while he sells off some of his "land deeds". Carac agrees knowing Burgell is raising money for the poor, though he wants nothing to do with the actual transactions. Using another persona, Burgell conducts some of his side business selling two forged deeds of land for 100 gp each. The gnome then proceeds to begin handing out gold pieces to the poor. Word quickly spreads, and Burgell is nearly trampled by the crowd before he tosses the rest of the money fleeing for safety.

Finn and Kor return to the settlement and immediately seek out Burgell. After swapping stories, the group decides to head out in the morning to return to Bloodstone tower. At the bar the overhear the following:

  • Some Caverns have been discovered which belong to some famous adventurers. Riches are said to be held within.
  • Ol'Triple Threat the wyvern has been seen nearby.

Readying 24, CY 515

Land Pirates

The next morning Burgell, Finn, Kor, and Carac gather supplies for the road. Burgell buys a riding dog named Bluto. They head out of the settlement and travel for some distance. As they reach the edge of the hills they are beset by ... Pirates? The pirates-turned-bandits attempt to ambush the party, but fail attack without being noticed. During the attack Finn's raven companion is killed, but the heroes able to beat the pirates Captain nearly senseless. He yields to the heroes. His name is Captain Treland Silvertooth formerly of the Sea Lion. It was a vessel operating out of the Hold of the Sea Princess that wrecked off the southern coast of the Pomarj. After evading Purple Squid Hobgoblins hunting along the coast, the clueless pirates headed inland intent on taking up piracy. The heroes convince the pirates to repent for their sins by joining their assault on Bloodstone Tower. An offer for a cut of the loot helped to seal the deal.
