Heirloom Class Items

Heirloom class weapons have magical abilities that only work for certain groups of people. Only members of the chosen group can utilize the abilities of the weapons. Usually, Heirlooms are confined to a family or bloodline, but they could also be keyed to a different type of group, such as a knightly order or even a wizard’s guild.

Abilities

As with all magical items, heirloom class items can be simple items or items of great power. Most heirloom items grow in power with the wielder, revealing new abilities after specific quests are completed or career milestones reached, or even simply with the passage of time. Each new owner of an Heirloom item has to go through the requirements in order to unlock the power of the item, although old owners do not have to unlock abilities again. The items remember their previous owners.

Some rare, and powerful, Heirloom class items have resonating powers that reveal themselves when 1 or more items are present. The Swiftblade Scimitars are such items. Two blades were fashioned. In addition to their individual powers, when both are used in harmony within 30’ of each other, their wielders gain the ability to protect and defend each other. It is not known what might happen if such weapons were to meet each other in combat.
