Tarien Astaril is a high elven Dark Hunter originally from the Duchy of Ulek. He learned the skills of a mountain scout and ranger patrolling the passes of the Lortmil range, as well as many of the subterranean passages leading through those mountains. Later, he joined a band of elven explorers sponsored by the Knights of Luna who often ventured into the Underdark. This band sought to discover the origins of the drow who plagued the Pomarj and Wild Coast region of the surface since the days of the Slave Lords.
Tarien and the rest of his band ventured yet further beneath the surface seeking out their drow enemies, but to no avail. Tarien came to serve Tánëvir Calywyn, the ex-Guildmaster of the Blackrazors, a short time ago when Tánëvir established a stronghold in the Lortmils to guard the main pass between the Duchy of Ulek and his own homeland of Celene. It is rumored that the drow recently seen in the city of Highport on the Pomarj’s northern shore are somehow connected with the drow of a vault city far to the west, and are using the vast tunnel network of the Underdark to send weapons and advisors to Mak, while receiving slaves captured on the surface in return. As an associate to the Knights of Luna, Lord Tánëvir has tasked Tarien with finding what information he can on the drow from the Westmark lands, since travel that far in the Underdark would be much to dangerous.
