Blue Thieves Guild

More of a gang of street-toughs than a true society of skilled rogues, the Blue Thieves Guild is now much more respected than in its prior existence under its new leadership.

For most of its existence, the Blue Thieves Guild has been renowned for the incompetence of its members and leadership. In a city full of pirates, brigands, bandits, mercenaries and sometime-slavers, the rogues of the Thieves Guild didn’t have the easy marks that they would have had in more civilized locales. Formerly based in a flophouse called the Whispering Weasel, the Guild now bases its activities from the Marleybone.

Until recent months, a man named Malvan ran the Guild. His claim to fame was in his driving the Guild to an all time low. He personally assumed a great deal of debt for failed business deals that he took up in the name of the Guild. The Cutters demanded quite a bit of tribute, and the majority of the Guild’s members could barely support themselves, much less be able to give the Guild its cut as is proper for such organizations. Thus, Malvan found himself deeply indebted to the Cutters, and sought out a man named Swern, a loan shark from which to borrow money. It was thought that a deal had been made which would allow Malvan to get out from under his many outstanding debts and loans, but, in a confusing turn of events, he was nearly captured in a failed attempt on the life of Rinnsrak Bukk of the Cutters, and was later seen fleeing the city. His status and whereabouts are currently unknown.

About this same time, Utembe Jaxson, a newer member of the Thieves Guild and a few of his followers assumed the leadership of the Guild. Utembe planned on getting rid of Malvan anyway, so when the fool accomplished this task on his own, Utembe had no opposition to the Guild’s top seat. The first thing he did was move the Guild to the Marleybone, and put his closest associates in charge of making the Guild’s indolent members into a more skilled bunch of thugs. Utembe plans on eventually challenging The Cutters for rule of the streets, so the more subtle skills of the roguish members are seldom used, unless for ambush purposes in gang fights.
