The Saga

23rd of Coldeven, C.Y. 587

After knocking out the orcish patrol, Fulgar and Aaron bound three of the patrol, and took two others prisoner. After interrogating them -- and learning that the next meeting of the orcs and their skyship patrons -- the Blackrazors headed off toward the next rendezvous point.

Realizing that the lost patrols -- and not the army -- was its mission, the party reluctantly headed toward their next rendezvous point with the City Guard: the remains of an abandoned watch tower near the Drachensgrab Hills. There was evidence that the City Guard patrol had been there, but left in a hurry.

24th of Coldeven, C.Y. 587

Confused, the party left the ruined tower in pursuit of their only lead – the orcish army. They caught up with the army, and as they camped about a mile away from it they were attacked by a rhino beetle. After killing the creature, they discovered that someone – or something – had left a trail of carrion around their camp to lead the creature to them.

The party continued to shadow the orcish army until it arrived at an unnatural plateau in the nearby hills. There the army once again rendezvoused with the hobgoblins and the skylords, who were still hidden beneath robes. As the meeting took place, the Blackrazors acted. Cloaked with invisibility magic, Fulgar and Kalib sneaked up on the leaders of all three groups and recorded their conversation using a librium of recording.

While the conversation continued, Fulgar and Kalib began scouting some of the armies’ supply wagons.

They succeeded in stealing many of the treasure and weapons given to the orcs, putting them in a bag of holding. After grabbing their librium back, they withdrew from the armies to watch the ensuing confusion.

26th of Coldeven, C.Y. 587

On the morning of the 26th, they watched as bizarre, vaguely humanoid (and highly enraged) flying creatures streamed out of the skylord tent. The adventurers were confused – after all, they had stolen from the orcs, not the sky creatures (unknown to the party, their fellow guild member, Greggor, had secretly caught up with the party and had succeeded in stealing something from the skylords).

Later that day, after the armies again split up, the party followed the orcs. This time, they engaged the army. They only inflicted minor damage on the army’s regulars, but did succeed in killing its leaders with well-placed fireballs. The Blackrazors then fled into the countryside in search of their next rendezvous point with the City Guard patrols.

That night they arrived at the rendezvous – an abandoned travelers inn. There they found the guardsman they’d been looking for – Sgt. Rolman. He was delirious and exhausted, but Kalib managed to calm him down with a cure insanity spell cast from the Blackrazors’ prized staff of curing. Once he could speak, he told the adventurers that when he slept, he changed, although into what he had no idea. He would then wake to find everyone dead.

The party explored the inn as as a fierce thunderstorm broke around them. They found nothing. Deciding that Rolman was too much of a risk to leave free, they put him into a chest and wrapped it with chains.

Then, slowly but surely, the party succumbed to sleep. While the others slept, Fulgar and Aaron watched as a strange water creature formed from the droplets leaking in from the ceiling below. They managed to disperse it before dropping into sleep. Fortunately Kalib and Kannett were able to wake themselves and the others in time to stop the other water creatures.

Exhausted and paranoid, the Blackrazors set up another of their treasures – an officer’s tent found in the Great Kingdom. The tent provided the party with a water-proof haven for the night.

27th of Coldeven, C.Y. 587

Realizing that the "vampire" attacks the works of the puddle creatures, the Blackrazors set out for a sea cave on the Azure Sea, where Sgt. Rolman said he first began having problems. There they found the cause of the patrols’ woes: a pool of animated water. It was then that the party realized what the water was: a mutated version of a monster known as a slithering tracker. They withdrew from the cave and fireballed it, reducing the creatures into super-heated steam.
