Vaughan grew up in Saltmarsh. His parents ran a small commercial fishery and Vaughan was raised in and around the sea. He left home to pursue a career as a soldier. He became a de facto medic in battle and found a natural affinity to healing. His service as a Marine was cut short when he learned that his parents had been lost at sea in a freak storm.
Vaughan returned home and in his grief, wrestling with the sad irony of losing his parents to the thing they loved most, the Sea, he became a devotee of Procan.
Most of his time is spent working as a hired crew member on various ships where his sailing expertise is considered as valuable as his skills as a healer. He is sometimes paid by merchants to offer blessings to Procan to assure a safe trip, or called to arrange memorials and comfort the families of lost sailors and those afflicted by storms. His adventurous streak never fully satisfied, he has realized that the ecclesiastical work of his calling is not his forte (and much less lucrative than he would like). Preferring instead to let the winds and the work take him where they will. They usually take him to a bar.
