What Has Come Before
The Blackrazors have long discussed finding Skel's Lair, but other tasks -- like exploring Maure Castle -- have taken precedence.
Fortunately someone else has found it for them.
Blue ice is an elemental form of ice so strong and so pure that it can be used instead of steel to forge weapons and armor. Among mountain dwarves it's prized for use in ceremonial war axes and they are always interested in rumors of new caches. Two weeks ago, dwarves in the mining stronghold of Dwjyr ("Fierce Camp") in the Barrier Peaks learned of such a blue ice horde through several of their glacial cousins.
The glacier dwarves explained that the blue ice lie within a valley deep within the mountain range. A team of mining scouts had found the vein years ago, but they were never able to exploit it because a white dragon claimed the valley for itself shortly after it was discovered. That dragon's name was Skel.
They fought the dragon several times, but were never able to drive it from the valley. When word reached the dwarves that Skel had been killed by the Blackrazors, some impetuous youths decided to mount their own expedition to the dragon's valley. No one is quite sure what they found there -- the sole survivor who returned raved about skeletons entombed in ice storming their camp, an elemental the size of a mountain that slaughtered his cousins with a single hit, and even the ghost of the white dragon haunting them through the winds of the worst blizzard they'd ever seen.
Two dozen youths lost their lives in that valley, and the glacier dwarves told their story as a cautionary tale illustrating the value of taking a few years to formulate a proper plan, tempering righteous greed with learned wisdom.
D'klar Ironforge, visiting the town when the tale was told, nodded in agreement. But he also knew of individuals more than powerful enough to deal with the threats that the valley posed … and who had certainly earned the right to seek the treasure it contained. And with that, he journeyed to the Blackrazor Guild Hall.
