The Saga

Coldeven 15, C.Y. 587

Aaron, Fulgar and the new guild member Kannett were hired to investigate the murder of a merchant-inventor in the village of Bordton, located near the city of Blue. After a day’s worth of riding, the Blackrazors came across an orcish army marching across the plains between Blue and Obsidian Bay. Realizing that they couldn’t do anything against the 250 to 300 humanoids in front of them, the three decided to skirt around the army to the north and ride through the night to Bordton.

Coldeven 16, C.Y. 587

The Blackrazors arrived in Bordton to find that the village had been torn into two factions by an invention of the dead man: a mechanical pen. This "pen" threatened to put many powerful factions, including the goose-raisers and scribes, out of work (The goose-raisers because the new pens did not require goose quills, the scribes because easy access to high-quality, long lasting pens could make it easier for others to how to write).

After sending a message onto Blue about the orcish army they had encountered, the 'Razors began to investigate the murder. Some villagers, who felt that outside "investigators" were corrupt, joined in.

After several false leads that seemed to implicate the anti-pen forces and then a real estate buyer, the Blackrazors realized that a carpenter, "Barbary" was next in line for the merchant's property and had killed him to get it. They confronted him, but discovered that he was actually a master thief wearing some sort of strange black body suit. This form-fitting suit allowed him to move in absolute silence and to take on the appearance of someone else.

The three Blackrazors confronted him, but the villain escaped into the sewers. Using divination spells, the Blackrazors tried to track the thief but were unable to find him, however, they did recover his armor from where it had been stashed.  Being the only thief in the party, Aaron took possession of the armor.

During the course of their investigation, the party had met with – and impressed – George Fillerman, the scribe of the village’s paper manufacturer. The sage was proficient in local history (Pomarj), heraldry, and five languages (common, goblin, minotaur, the common language of giant, and elvish). Having solved the murder, the party earned 200 gold pieces each and returned to the city with Fillerman in tow.

Coldeven 18, C.Y. 587

Once back in the city, the party set up Fillermen as their guild scribe and rested.
