What Has Come Before

The Dark City heroes have left Obsidian Bay in search of the tongue of a naga said to lair in an abandoned kobold complex within the UnderOerth's Southern Arc. The tongue is needed as the essential component in purging a toxin that has contaminated a cistern in Obsidian Bay's Mudsitters District, and which may be responsible for the mutation of a tentacle-child born there.

The Saga

Patchwall 3

When Stone Flies

Fawkes starts climbing down the sheer cliff of the cavern room and makes it 20 feet when gargoyles attack when gargoyles attack, cutting the rope and sending him plummeting to the floor. After the fall, he stands, staggered but alive. Gargoyles try to grapple their foes but fail -- the counter attack from the adventurers wounds them badly, forcing them to land.

Gargoyle shreds Thargo, the dwarven guide who'd already been badly injured in the slide down the corridor above. Kerth avenges him by pushing the other gargoyle off the side of the cliff, forcing it to glide to the cavern floor to face Fawkes. The paladin slashes the gargoyle, nearly killing it. The creature strikes back with its dying attack, then collapses. The paladin then blesses his weapon and kills the creature in the name of Wee Jas.

Surviving gargoyle lashes out at Corash and Kerth, backing them in a corner. It tries to push Kerth off the cliff, but fails… dying as it lashes out. Thom starts scribing the Ballad of the Fallen Paladin … Sir Fawkes, he who fell but kept his faith … all because they cut the rope.

Troll is amused by the fight and points out lair of gargoyles up about 80 feet. Corash enlarges his owl familiar, Nightwing and has him fetch the fallen rope and fly it to the top of the cliff. Corash ties the rope together. While they descend, the owl scouts out the lair, finding a small cache of treasure.

Patchwall 4

The Halfway Point

The party continues travelling and are thankful when the long hours pass without any new dangers. They find the lair entrance that Thargo had described to them earlier and entered it, finding it comprised off tight, twisting passages that were hard for normal-sized individuals to maneuver in. Ninety feet inside, they encounter a group of troglodytes hiding just out of site. The adventurers spring the ambush, fending off the humanoids and their vile stench and defeating them easily. They then turned their attention back to the cramped dungeon around them.
