An adventuring guild dedicated to underwater exploration.

Overview

The Sunken Hammer Guild is Obsidian Bay's only adventuring guild dedicated exclusively to adventuring beneath the waves. The guild seeks out sunken caverns, drowned fortresses, and ship wrecks for gold, adventure, and knowledge. The guild's archives contain Obsidian Bay's best records about the location of sunken ships and underwater races near the Pomarjain shores.

Initiation

Assistant Guildmaster Noldera Maborough handles all of the interviews with prospects interested in joining the guild. Once approved by Maborough, those seeking to join must pass the following tests of skill during a one-day cruise upon the Sunken Hammer ship The Emerald Mermaid:

  • Test of Knot Knowledge: The inductee must tie three of the following knots: a binding knot (DC 10), a running knot (DC 12) and a splot knot (DC 14).
  • Test of Endurance: While holding a heavy weight under water, the individual must hold his breath for 12 rounds (60 seconds0. Note that a person can hold his breath for up to his Con score unless he's under duress and taking actions, which halves the time he can spend underwater. For every round past this limit, he must make a DC 10 Con check to stay underwater, and each round increases the DC by 1
  • Test of Swimming Skill: The inductee must swim from the ship to land over a distance of 1/4 mile. This requires three successful DC 15 skill checks (rough water)

The Sunken Hammers usually take three or four prospects out simultaneously, and admit the top one or two individuals, depending on how well they do in the tests. Promising individuals who fail one of the tests may still be admitted on a probationary basis, but are closely watched by guild members. If they fail a crucial skill check during their probation (rolling a "1" on their first guild mission in skills relating to seamanship) then they are prohibited from becoming permanent members.

People

  • Skellefger: The Sunken Hammer Guild's half-mad cleric of Procan
  • Ulmari Azkhari: An expert trap-finder and member of the Sunken Hammer Guild
  • Aazair Djazama, Guildmaster: A Baklunish wizard who fled persecution in his own lands (allegedly for defiling ancient tombs), Djazama now leads the Sunken Hammer Guild
  • Noldera Maborough, Asssistant Guildmaster: A conjuration specialist and second in command of the Sunken Hammer Guild.
  • Ilsar Steinhager: The Sunken Hammer Guild's expert temple raider.

Sites

  • Sunken Hammer Guildhall: Easily Obsidian Bay's most nautical guild, the Sunken Hammer Guild is dedicated to exploring coastal and submerged ruins along the Azure Sea. Their guild hall is filled with treasures and trophies from such places, including gigantic shark jaws, beautiful clusters of coral, and amazing ornmanents crafted with pearls.
