Greylen is the Grand Master of the Obsidian Tower and a former member of the Blackrazor Guild.

Overview

Greylen is a dark-skinned man with short, greying hair. He wears dark gray robes lined with silver highlights. He looks old, but fit, and his blue-silver eyes are bright with intelligence. He was one of the legendary Four Wizards of the Blackrazor Guild succeeded in penetrating the defenses of White Plume Mountain with guildmaster Brant Bladescream. They returned home to Obsidian Bay with a tremendous magical cache, while Bladescream carried his own trophy: the sword Blackrazor, which gave its name to the guild they founded.

In the years that followed, he worked with the guild's three other founding mages to create the Blackrazor's manor-house basement. It was an impressive magical fortification that included dimensional gateways to locations scattered around the Flanaess. When Bladescream led his disasterous expedition against the wyrm Woryx, over the objections of the Four Wizards, they flew into a rage, sealed the underground fortress, cursed Bladescream, and left for unknown destinations.

For Greylen, that destination was the Obsidian Tower, where he happily lost himself in researching extraplaner matters and training younger mages. In Coldeven, CY 589 Greylen became the Grand Master of the Tower, taking the mantle from the previous master, Starstorm. As with the rest of the Tower mages, Greylen tends to be reclusive, and spends little time in Obsidian Bay. He is known as a fair leader who's slow to anger -- but few can rival his fury when he does become angry.

Organizations

  • Mages of the Obsidian Tower: Greylen leads this reclusive and powerful group of mages dedicated to protecting the Flanaess from extraplaner incursions.
  • Blackrazor Guild: Greylen once led the mages of this guild, but abandoned it when Guildmaster Brant Bladescream decided to mount his suicidal assault on the black dragon Woryx.
