The Saga

Gruesome Scene

Sir Fawkes detects evil and finds a slowly evaporating trace. Determine that the patrol was comprised of 4-7 Corinites. Debate what to do next; Sir Fawkes wants to stay with the bodies, Corash and Kerth say they want to go on. Thom says that might be suicide, and although sickened, doesn't want to venture into the mists. They decide to stay and wait for a patrol.

Patrol arrives about an hour later. Sergeant Edwin sees the body, vomits, then says he will fetch more guards. 3 a.m. When he returns, they alert him to the victims status as priests of Trithereon, he says he will notify both factions. Corash says they'll go to speak with them as well.

The guard says the bodies will be taken to the morgue at the Citadel of Law; Sir Fawkes gets a sample of the acid in a vile, and decides to take it to Belgold Pegason, who had requested samples of anything odd he might find.

Delivering The News

They patrol into the early morning hours before heading to the Temple of Vengeance to speak with Corin and his followers.

  • The Vengeful Temple: A Trithereonite temple belonging to Corin and a band of Tritherionites who challenge Kalib's interpretations of his god's divine will.
  • Tyrant-Killers Guildhall: The guildhall for a fierce band of adventurers dedicated to opposing tyrany in all its forms.

They speak Taldari Kingbane, who explains that they are missing a patrol. Kerth explains they found said missing patrol. Kingbane thanks him for their help, and dispatches Bernrail, 5th priest of Trithereon/2nd level ranger.

Bernrail says that the cleric who went missing was Nilhan Vasterholn, Tyrant-killer, and that their patrol was headed north to the Mudsitters District. He finds evidence of retractable claws -- large retractable claws.

Head to Ellington at the rival Temple of Pursuit, who informs them the tritheronites have been investigating demon cultists.

They head to Belgold's residence, dropping off Corash at the Library. At Belgold's, Sir Fawkes explains that they encountered the destroyed bodies of a Corinite patrol, bodies taken to citadel. He looks at the vial, casts various detection powers and spells, and determines it has a psionic residue.

Belgold says that they should hunt the boundry areas, and that abberations can be found there, hunting the edge areas of the city. He also gives them two scrolls of detect aberration and invoke the cerulean sign.

Return to library and pick up Corash, and catch him up on what happens.

They split up and return to their respective additional residences. Drop Corash at Black Quill, Kerth to the Shield Maidens (escorted by Sir Fawkes) and Sir Fawkes goes to the Restful Hero, Thom to Fire-eaters.

Sir Fawkes gets a shave and a hair cut from the Restful Hero, gets bath, cigar.

Corash has a fitfull rest, and has visions of a great green pulsating orb in the sewers.

The Cyst

Evening mists begin to gather as the heroes head to Fire-eaters. Thom suggests he speak with Maugiir. The apprentice consults the master, who explains that the orb may be a cyst, an incursion of the far realm into our reality.

They head into the sewers, to the location of the portal they had closed previously. They go there, and find nothing.

They delve into the sewers, hear a man screaming for help. They investigate and see the orb, and the man crawling toward them. He screams that they were attacking him, and attacked from no where. Suddenly they see a creature appear, strange, monsterous, a biped that gestures and suddenly the air crackles with cold. Corash is instantly frozen in place.

Kerth casts mass lesser vigor to heal individuals, Corash, the fallen Sewerman and himself. Thom rushes up to Corash, heals him "we need you to do that sign thing!"

Summoning a true strike power, striking the creature with his sword and smiting it in the name of Wee Jas.

"Kerth has failed us. You must slay this thing!" Corash says, and casts the Cerulean Sign. The man on the floor recoils from the bright light, while the creature recoils, horrofied.

Thom begins singing, and uses his ring of chameleon power.

One creature telekinetically pummeling Sir Fawkes, while the other brainlocks Corash. Kerth blasts the creature with sunfire, burning it badly. Sir Fawkes, losing his bastard sword, draws his warhammer and lashes out. He misses, but hits with his ritual blade. Wee jas blesses his assault, taking an interest in his fight against the evil. The creature dies.

It's kin lashes out with an electrical bolt, nearly killing Thom. Kerth crashes his flaming mace into the creature, wounding it badly. Corash shakes the brainlock, and then kills the creature with a magic missile.

After the fight, they learn that the man in the sewer's name is Ivis Dirthound, and that he is a member of the Sewersman Guild who became lost below and stumbled across the cyst.

Thom, Corash and Ivis head to the surface, and Thom convinces the elf to see Master Belgold. They hear distant howls, but don't have time to investigate. They summon him to see the foci, he explains it is a cerebrotic proto-foci, that might lead to the creation of a Cerebrotic Periphery.

Butchers End

They then return to the surface, send Ivis to Fire-eaters, Fawkes buys him a room. They then head out in the direction of the howls, where they find the remains of a patrol of scale-armored individuals: Earth Dragons.

They try and wake the neighborhood -- known as Butchers End, asking someone to summon the guard, but they find that that the inhabitants are strangely hostile, and begin demanding that they leave.
