The North Gate served Obsidian Bay for years as the primary entrance and exit to the city, a role it ceded to the March Gate when the Outer Wall was completed in CY 591.
The gate remains an important part of the city's defenses however, and its location near the High Quarter combined with its traditional role as the barracks that leads the charge against the enemy makes it a prestigous posting.
