The Saga

Flocktime 15, CY 592

Wisdom of the Goddess

Once in Seltaren they quickly sought out their earlier contacts and sold their new found treasures. Flush with funds, they immediately acquired or placed orders for additional weapons and magical tools to aid them on their recurring quest: the exploration of Maure Castle. They soon teleport to the ruins and setup camp so Andulf Truedeath can commune with Mayaheine about what awaits them within.

The goddess reveals that the enemies of Pelor have been to the castle before them, and left powerful guardians. The sending ended with the warning to be ever vigilant in their exploration of the lair of the Maures.

Confusion within Great Hall

The next day, the Blackrazors made their way to the Unopenable Doors, where a magic mouth appeared and uttered the following message:

Followers of Lewandrew,

What you seek cannot be found here. Return not, or you will be destroyed. I will keep your new creations however, for they please me and shall serve my purposes well.;;

Seekers of the Blackrazor

Brave you may be, stupid you surely are. Your death awaits within as surely as the halfling's sanity lies with Kerzit. Leave while you still have your lives. Cross me, and I will feed you to the Guardian myself.

Eli Tomorast

Naturally, the Blackrazors ignore the warning. Using Dworkin's Bronze Key of Portals, they make their way past the Doors and return once more to its first level, known as the Great Halls. The Halls are not as they left them -- a heavy mist fills its great common rooms and its myriad side corridors. Those venturing into the mists quickly become disoriented, and find themselves turned around despite their best efforts. Worse yet, an ominous, distant, metallic booming indicates that the terrible iron golem of Maure Castle has awakened and is patrolling the Halls.

After trapping the iron golem within a resiliant sphere, the Blackrazors used their maps and the walls of the dungeon to feel out the correct path to the second floor. Their explorations led them to the previous location of the door that should have held the passageway leading to its secret entrance, but instead they found nothing. Determined exploration with fingers and magic determined that the door was hidden by an illusion, and -- once pierced -- the Blackrazors passed beyond.

The Death of Silas

The second floor revealed more of the same magical mists and confusion, which the party's mages were finally able to identify as a spell called guards and wards. Once identified, and after several failed attempts, it was successfully dispelled.

The adventurers continue their crawl toward the stairs down, exploring the few rooms they had not seen previously as they did so. This revealed what must have been the temporary camp of the Cult of Death Undying, complete with a small shrine to Nerull. The Blackrazors make quick work of the shrine, with their ally Andulf of the Order of the Final Rest destroying it with a hallow spell.

And then the horror comes. Drawn by the disturbance of its masters lair, a thing of bones and undeath flee thing fled over the stone floors of the second level, scratching and grinding against the walls as it did so.

The creature -- which Andulf recognized as a bone weird -- attacked the adventurers with an unholy fury. It snatched up Silas in its terrible maw and consumed him, reducing his body to a bloody pulp as its evil magics drew ever bone from its body to join its own collection. Meanwhile, its own allies -- undead trolls it spewed earlier -- attack, pinning the adventurers on all sides. A few are destroyed by Dworkin, who holds aloft his Bronze Key and evokes the power of Dalt. It has no effect on the weird, however.

Too late to save Silas, Andulf called upon the power of his god to destroy the creature, and succeeds. The entire battle was over in less than 30 seconds, but it took a terrible toll. Distraught by the loss of Silas, and badly wounded by the fight, the Blackrazors decided to teleport back to Seltaren.
