Overview

The Order of the Broken Staff is a little-known group comprised of mages who have rejected the Guild of Wizardry and the Obsidian Tower’s dominance over magic in the city. Membership in the group is by invitation only, and it maintains no formal ‘hall’ or ‘office’ in the city.

The total roster of this 80-year-old group is believed to be around 15 individuals. Rumor has it that only those who have failed their tests to be admitted to the Obsidian Tower or are invited to join the Order, and those that do are forced to destroy one of their personal magical items as proof of their fealty.

Very little is known about the Order's motivations, but it has never posed any sort of threat to the city or its inhabitants. Those who know of it believe the group is primarily concerned with grumbling about the Obsidian Tower's influence on the city's elite.

Representatives of the Guild of Wizardry and Obsidian Tower acknowledge the group's existance, but have apparently never taken any action against it.
