The Lady Zinora of Seltaren is reputedly a noblewoman from a minor aristocratic family in the Duchy of Urnst (rumored to be related to the House of Maure).

Overview

The Lady Zinora ("The Auburn Witch") of Seltaren (F, Human Cleric 3/Wizard 3/Mystic Theurge 4) is reputedly a noblewoman from a minor aristocratic family in the Duchy of Urnst (rumored to be related to the House Maure). She is a practitioner of both divine and arcane magic, being a devotee of the Suel goddess Wee Jas. She is in her late thirties (though appears much younger), and is a very attractive woman of medium height, and a shapely figure. She generally dresses in clothes of the newest fashion, favoring courtly dresses of red and black satin with high collars and low necklines. She generally keeps her shoulder length auburn hair pinned up, held with a platinum tiara set with rubies.

Zinora is renowned among the social circles of Obsidian Bay's elite for her haughty disposition and short temper. At one time she was a member of the Starfire Guild, due to the fact that they are more tolerable of women members than the almost exclusively male Guild of Wizardry, but Zinora had a serious falling out with the Starfire Guildmaster, Nola Fireheart, some years ago… the two are now bitter rivals. Zinora resides in a sizable manor house built upon a waterfront estate in the High Quarter along the shores of Drake’s Lake. There is a small shrine dedicated to Wee Jas she had built on the property, and Zinora allows the goddesses few adherents within Obsidian Bay to worship there on the holy days of the Jasian faith, leading the ceremonies herself. She previously had many connections within the ruling class of the city, but since her falling out with Nola Fireheart, she has few remaining friends. She is nominally a member of the Order of the Broken Staff, but is often frustrated by their lack of organization and focus, as well as the low social standing of many of its members. Zinora endeavors to enforce her will upon the others in terms of forging a more viable organization, as well as improving their social status, but has so far been unsuccessful.

Zinora [of House Nellix] is indeed a member of a minor noble house from the city of Seltaren in the Duchy of Urnst. She left that land after she was shamed when her fiancé, Caltaron Rendest, left her at the altar for a common scullery maid named Kressa. Her former betrothed was a young scion of an important merchant house. He had long been known for his philandering, but he was forced into the union with Zinora by his father, who wished to form a political tie to one of the Duchy’s ruling families. Caltaron and Kressa fled the Urnst lands, supposedly through the Celadon Forest to the border with Nyrond, but it is uncertain if they made it through safely.

Zinora then turned her devotion to the faith of Wee Jas for a time, but never found peace within the confines of the temple. She set out on a brief but extremely profitable adventuring career for the Jasian faith, during which her party explored the lands beyond the Hellfurnaces of the Sea of Dust and the Sulhaut range. They were among the first to discover the ruins of the ancient city of Zinbyle, where they uncovered several religious and cultural artifacts of the Suel Imperium. Her home in the High Quarter is decorated with many of the lesser items that were not given to the temple in Seltaren. This quest was profitable enough for Zinora to retire from adventuring, and she decided upon the growing city of Obsidian Bay, as it was far from the reminders of her previous embarrassment in her homeland.

During the occupation of Obsidian Bay by the forces of the Scarlet Brotherhood, Zinora was rumored to have consorted with the enemy by hosting Brotherhood agents at her manor, but in truth she was merely trying to protect her home and possessions from seizure. It cost her some of the most prized pieces in her collection, however, since the Brotherhood had those choice artifacts sent back to the Tilvanot. Once the city was liberated, she kept a low profile for a time until memory of her actions during the occupation had faded, though some still remember and harbor deep resentment for what they consider her acts of treason, especially within the church of Pholtus.

Zinora’s manor house is built upon a lakeside bluff on Drake Circle, with the small shrine to Wee Jas being a round, pillared structure with a stone staircase leading to the water’s edge and a landing for a fine yacht. She frequently invites handsome young men from the High Quarter to go on leisurely cruises of the lake, but most end up swimming back to shore for one reason or another.

Zinora's arcane spells focus on these areas: fire, fear, scrying, charming, and a touch of necromancy. Her home is guarded by Kvahl, her Hell Hound familiar.
