What Has Come Before
After many interesting encounters, the Blackrazor Guild has decided to suspend their expedition into Maure Castle. Most of the guild has returned home to await their next adventure.
Meanwhile, the Ruins of Hextorite Shrine, built during the fall of Obsidian Bay and the site of numerous adventures, is finally up for sale.
The Saga
Month Day, 592
Fire in the Sky
It's auction day in Obsidian Bay. Today the city is prepared to sell off the Ruins of Hextorite Shrine, and put an end to this center of evil once and for all. Several prominent citizens are in attendance, including . The bidding war rages on for some time, until finally the gavel falls declaring the new owner. Suddenly, a column of fire erupts from the center of the ruins, reaching towards the heavens, as demons begin to appear about the city.
Meanwhile on the other side of the city, Heydrich and Rex are hanging out in Malcanthet's Den when they hear screams from outside. Darting out, they catch sight of the pillar of fire. Gathering their bearings, they are relieved that it's not coming from the direction of the Blackrazor Guildhall.
The two quickly head off to join what they believe must be one hell of a fight. As they arrive at the source, they find the column of fire is emanating from the Ruins of Hextorite Shrine. Among those who have shown up to lend a hand are fellow Blackrazor Melchoir, Ellington of the Temple of Pursuit, and a sizable contingent from the Invincibles Guild. The four show up just as the Invincibles contingent is about to charge into the shrine. Unfortunately, much to their chagrin, they are bounced by some sort of magical barrier surrounding the shrine. Curious, Ellington and Melchoir test the barrier, but
Into the Shrine
Blackrazors and Ellington charge into the shrine. Inside they find it is guarded by Barbed devils, chain devils, and iron-masked men. Get to work killing the men and fighting off the devils. Melchoir speeds up the process by casting a spell causing a barbed and two chain devils flee through the fiery portal. The party then makes short work of the rest, capturing one of the men for questioning.
Find that these are members of the Knights of the Iron Nation attempting to regain Obsidian Bay. This guy however, is just a mook, and doesn't know the overall plan. Party debates what to do with him. Ellington does not want to give him over to the city, and the Blackrazors are rather indifferent to his fate. So they throw him into the flame pillar, where he becomes engulfed in flame.
Blackrazors; Preparations?
Fire protection, then charge into fire. Transported into darkness. Rex climbs out and finds party is in what appears to be the shrine. Several chain devils, a blackguard, and a horned devil attack party. Rex makes short work of the blackguard, and holds off the chain devils while Melchoir, Ellington, and Heydrich take on the horned devil. As Rex begins to struggle with the number of devils and chains attacking him, Melchoir takes flight and aids Rex. Party eventually defeats the devils, and free the captives. Destroy the chain closing the portal, and planeshift home.
