The blacksmith for the Blackrazor Guild's Obsidian Bay Guild Hall

Overview

Grant Obermiester is the chief blacksmith of the Blackrazor Guild in Obsidian Bay. He was just an average joe until the day when he saw Ragnar Blackmane go more than a dozen rounds with Gef Ironhold at a Blackrazor open house. On that day he decided he had to join the guild, and did. At the time he thought he’d leave a life of high adventure, fighting evil.

It didn’t work out that way. Instead he realized that his love of metalworking was a valuable skill, and one that the guild would pay him well to use. He trained under the guild’s best metal workers, most notably the dwarven warrior Luc, and was named head blacksmith within six months of joining the guild.

Up until the Scarlet Brotherhood invasion, Grant ran an efficient, well-organized smithy, and was responsible for the basic repairs and metalworking around the guild. When the Brothers’ forces overran the city though, he refused to put up with the occupying force. He recruited a small number of Blackrazors and retreated into the countryside, where he helped organize informal resistance against the Brotherhood and its humanoid allies.

He was finally getting a taste for adventure, and realizing that he liked it. It was his group who found Anders, Gambori and Obert wandering dazed and confused outside of the city after being mind-raped by ancient Suel archmages. His band helped bring the respected Blackrazor seconds pack up to speed, and then joined them in exploring Obsidian Bay’s infamous Black Gulch (a huge sink hole created during the invasion by the Blackrazor Sven Kildare).

He and the rest of the Blackrazors who stayed behind were deep in the bowels of the Pomarj when demons rose up from an Abyssal portal in the Blackrazor basement and overran the city. His team returned to the city months after the demonic invasion, just in time to see the fiends banished from the Prime by other Blackrazors. Once the guild was re-established, he resumed his position as blacksmith. Now he’s eagerly training more apprentices so that he can spend more time in the field. He dreams of forging a superior long sword that he can wield in battle, and has begun experimenting with forging swords in anticipation of that day.

He presently has three Blackrazor apprentices, but he also handles the training for the blacksmiths out at the Blackrazor Brewery.
