What Has Come Before

The Blackrazors, flush with cash from their first expedition to the Obsidian Maze, have successfully paid off their first tax bill. Now they return for a second time, not knowing the doom that will befall many of their members.

The Saga

Flocktime 5, CY 586

Setting Out

In early Flocktime CY 586, with their annual Coldeven tax bills safely behind them, and a bright summer ahead, the Blackrazor Guild launched another expedition into Obsidian Maze. The group leaders – comprised of Killian, Falger, Malphas, Calvin, Kalib, Tanevir and Friddle – brought a small force of a dozen men with them. That number included three of their most promising henchmen – Simon, Gambori, and Anders.

Tanevir and Friddle stayed above ground with a majority of the guild’s lesser members. Five members – Simon, Gambori, Anders and two others who had not yet earned their names – went into the mountain with the rest of the party.

Flocktime 15, CY 586

Wyvrens and Crystal Skulls

The party arrived at Obsidian Maze on the 15th of Flocktime, CY 586

Further into the dungeon, in the Hall of the Throne, the party released and defeated a wyvren, which unfortunately skewered poor Simon. Afterwards they found the savaged remains of a group of High Orcs. Their armor had been shredded by powerful talons, and a few had strange 6 inch bone spikes piercing their bodies. Further examination of the cavern-like chamber found a door in the northern half that had been barricaded shut. The party smashed to door down only to find the remains of the rest of the high orcs – one of which had been transformed into a ghast-like creature.

They then explored the southern portion, finding one of the lesser laboratories belonging to the feared necromancer Lewandrew. In it was the animated skeletal remains of a High Orc, which had been animated by the necromancer’s negative energies. They also found a secret room which held a number of spell books and a vial of a destructive liquid that seemed to be tightly attuned to the negative material plane. After destroying the skeleton the party was attacked by an animated skeletal hand, which nearly throttled Killian.

The party’s further explorations discovered a temple-like room which held two of Lewandrew’s razorback skeletons and a pure crystal skull. They also found a chamber with a solid beam of golden light.

After resting, the party decided to head back to the surface, but before they even arrived at the shaft they were greeted by members of their own party fleeing a massive goblin attack on the surface.

What followed was a costly victory for the guild. The guild leaders ravaged the goblins – Killian alone killed nearly two dozen with his powerful war axe Gransak – but lost more than half of the lesser guild members they brought with them, including the near-veteran Simon. Most of them died on the surface, but a small number were killed by an undead attack from inside the dungeon led by Nefar, one of Lewandrew’s henchmen and a priest of Nurell.

Flocktime 17, CY 586

Simon's Eternal Rest

On the 17th of Flocktime – after burying their dead – the party returned to Obsidian Bay. Once their they brought Simon’s remains to the clerics of the church of St. Cuthbert, who were unable to raise him. Faced with the possibility of losing face before the guild, the leaders decided to hold an elaborate ceremony in which two of the survivors of the latest Obsidian Maze expedition received their guild names -- Gus the Goblinslayer and Rabe the Razor.

The day after the ceremony, the party began their researching Lewandrew’s history, learning in the process that he had experimented heavily with negative energies, and that he had been attempting to create a Cult of Death Undying when he was decapitated – and thought slain – by a party of adventurers outside of Eldredd, in the Wild Coast.

Flocktime CY 19, 586

Once More into the Maze

On the 19th of Flocktime, the party sit out once more for the Obsidian Maze. Upon entering it, they fought a group of ghouls masquerading as fallen adventurers. The party defeated the foul creatures, who screamed "The master has your pet! The master has your pet!"

Returning to an unexplored room of rubble in the dungeon’s northeastern corner, the party fought another of Lewandrew’s men, Separious. They forced him to retreat to his headquarters, where they fought a pitched battle and took heavy damage...
